Breath of the Wild Looks Awesome

You know … I usually try my best to be a very level-headed person. I try to look at things as objectively as I can, hold off on forming an opinion on something until I learn more about it. I pay my taxes. Most of all I do my best to not let the hype over to-be-released games take over this early. However there are some games where unfortunately this is simply not possible. AND THE LEGEND OF ZELDA IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS.

The other day we got a ton of information on the next gen sequel that we now know was Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It seriously looks amazing. I mean yeah sure, I obsess over every Legend of Zelda game I play. And yeah maybe I did start going crazy for the game only ten seconds into the trailer. But Breath of the Wild really does look so much more different. Somewhere along the line of being a Zelda fan you learn to sort of just trust that the newest game is going to be fun, even if you have your initial doubts. Part of that trust comes from the formulaic nature of the series. You know there’s going to be some of that good old fashioned dungeon crawling, some puzzles galore, and a princess to save. And you know what? They showcased something entirely different than any of that stuff in this trailer.

Take a look for yourself.

Let’s go over this for a second. You have:
  • A bigger and better Hyrule that looks MASSIVE.
  • Completely open world.
  • FUTURISTIC TECHNOLOGY in a Zelda game.
  • Breathtaking scenery

Honestly this looks like a cross between one of those unreal engine demos of old Zelda games that show up every few months on Youtube and some Legend of Zelda fan fiction set in the future. As I mentioned before it doesn’t look like they even touched upon some the series’ staple elements (Other than the game beginning with Link waking up. Let’s not get too crazy). It doesn’t even look like a Zelda game which is super exciting.

You’ll be able to find an extensive look into the first hour or so of the game on Nintendo’s Youtube channel. I haven’t watched anything other than the first trailer because I want to try going into this game as blind as possible. Though that’ll probably change in the long wait for the release…

On a side note, the title ‘Breath of the Wild’ reminds me of a book called ‘Call of the Wild’ which I accidentally bought in the 3rd grade thinking it was a comic book. I’m still mad about that.
