Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is an HD collection to be released December 2016 which includes a remastered Kingdom Hearts 3D and two new stories – Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage. I’m honestly not surprised that this reveal had me more confused than when I read up on Kingdom Hearts’ story for the first time.
When I first heard about this I thought it was an entirely new game. It wasn’t hard to guess that it was another remastered collection after hearing the woes of a few of my friends who are die-hard KH fans. But even then I was wrong! So if you’re like me and are struggling to make sense of it al l, fear not because I am going to break it down for you.
Kingdom Hearts 2.8 includes an HD, remastered for the Playstation 4 version of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance – a game previously released on the Nintendo 3DS. (Also the only Kingdom Hearts game I have actually played…) It also includes two “new pieces of content”. The first being Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover and the second being Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage.
Kingdom Hearts x Back Cover is an entirely cinematic movie which reveals new information on the series’ history. So just to be clear, this one’s not a game, but an hour-long movie.
Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage is also a cinematic showing events that take place after the original Birth By Sleep. This one actually does have a bit of playable content: a mini world the size of about one stage that ties into this cinematic.
I mean all in all it’s a pretty cool bit of news. I’m still holding out for Kingdom Hearts 3 though.
