Another short story! This one was really rushed so it’s a bit rough.

I froze. As soon as I realized what I was looking at I grabbed at my chest. It was only then when I noticed how tight my chest felt. I’m breathing faster and faster as my heart races. I try making a sound and nothing but a short gasp leaves my throat. I feel like the world is spinning, but as I hold on to the sink in front of me I slowly raise my shaking arm to look at it once more –

“I thought it was your favourite book?” I asked.

“Just give it back to me when you’re done.” he said. “Besides I’ve already read it like seven times. Anyway you have to read it, it’s so good!”

There he goes again with his overbearing kindness. Reethe pushed the book into my hands as we passed the crosswalk on our way home from school. Before going down his street he turned to me once more.

“Oh yeah and don’t forget to show me your Mark tomorrow!” he said before running home. Of course I won’t forget – I had already decided that the first person I’d show my Mark to would be Reethe. I just hope that mine will be as bright and as white as his. I want everyone at school to be surprised when they see my Mark. Even more surprised than when they saw Reethe’s. But to do that I’d have to be even nicer than him. That’s why I worked extra hard at the senior’s home today. I even donated everything in my piggy bank to charity yesterday.

When I got home I hugged my mom and dad as tightly as I could. Hopefully the Mark will see how kind I am!

At dinner I volunteered to wash the dishes. Maybe the Mark will realize that I am such a nice person!

At bedtime I tucked my little sister into bed. I told her my favourite bedtime story – a tale of righteous heroes with white circles on their hands fighting pitch black monsters. I bet Reethe doesn’t read his sister a bedtime story.

I turned off all the lights in the house on my way to my room to save electricity costs. Reethe probably doesn’t even care about his parents’ electric bills.

When I woke up the next morning I immediately looked for my Mark on my right hand. It was too dark to see anything so I went for the bathroom and turned on the lights and as soon as I looked at my hand I froze for a good ten seconds. As soon as I realized what I was looking at I grabbed at my chest. It was only then when I noticed how tight my chest felt. I’m breathing faster and faster as my heart races. I try making a sound and nothing but a short gasp leaves my throat. I feel like the world is spinning, but as I hold on to the sink in front of me I slowly raise my shaking arm to look at it once more – a black circle on my right hand.
